Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur

Enchanted River

This place is definitely one for the books.

We came from Samal Island, Davao, going back to Southern Leyte, and since it’s on our way going back to the Visayas, we didn’t waste our chance to visit Hinatuan!

This is a must-visit in Surigao del Sur, and its name says it all — enchanted because it really is; it is full of wonders! Drew Arellano even said that “Ang dami ko na kasing nakalimutang magagandang lugar, but ito promise kahit tumanda na ko, hindi ko sya makakalimutan.” Same, Drew, same!

The locals believe that this place was inhabited by a “Diwata” and “Enkantos,” that’s why it is called Enchanted. The fishes here are considered sacred. Looking at how magical it is, I have no doubts.

I have never seen a river with a blue Gatorade-like color. This has always been on my bucket list, and I felt excited and happy the whole time I was there! I am thrilled that I was able to visit this place, especially with my loved ones, even though everything was unplanned.

The weather was good, and despite the pandemic and restrictions, we had smooth travel and transactions.

The foods were terrific too. Please try their steamed Saang; it's to die for, very mura pa. 🤤 [see photo below]

The river taught us how to listen with a silent heart, with a waiting open soul...
